The Ethics Committee and its tasks

The Ethics Committee of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is the central body that deals with ethical issues at KIT. The Ethics Commission has the following tasks, among others:

  • To deal with ethical issues of fundamental importance for KIT and to make (final) recommendations.
  • To examine the ethical admissibility of research projects(information on the application procedure).
  • To deal with the risks of misuse of research work carried out at KIT (security-relevant research/dual use).
  • To appeal to the KIT Senate on fundamental ethical issues.

The composition and tasks of the Ethics Committee are regulated in the "Guidelines for Ethical Principles of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)". The Ethics Committee has established its own rules of procedure.

The Ethics Committee is supported in its work by the Office for Good Scientific Practice and Ethical Principles.
