Changes to Research Projects

Each vote of the KIT Ethics Committee on research projects states that

"Changes to the research project and any serious or unexpected adverse events before or during the implementation of the research project that affect the safety of the participants or the implementation of the research project must be reported to the Ethics Committee immediately."

If you wish to notify the Ethics Committee of a change to your research project, please send an email to kommission∂ethik.kit.edu .

In the email, describe (in keywords)

• what changes you are making,
• why they are necessary
• and whether or how, in your opinion, the changes will affect the ethical risk-benefit assessment.

Please attach any updated documents as PDF files with meaningful file names.

If you are planning major changes, it may be helpful to create a so-called change request. This makes it easier for the ethics committee to understand your changes:

• To submit a change request, use the pre-filled application form in Word format and highlight all changes in the text using the "track changes" function.
• Send the change request and all other relevant documents in the form of individual PDFs by email to kommission∂ethik.kit.edu by the deadline. .
• In addition, describe in the email text
  • which changes you are making
  • why they are necessary
  • and whether or how, in your opinion, the changes will affect the ethical risk-benefit assessment.

The Ethics Committee will take note of the reported change as soon as possible. If it does not see any ethical concerns, the Committee will formally decide at its next possible meeting that its original vote remains valid. You will receive confirmation by email.
